London Mayor reduces targets for social and affordable rent homes.
Islington Council oversees the development of new housing in the borough. The London Mayor sets targets for housing across London and, with Islington Council, an annual target for the borough.
Between 2005 and 2015 Islington's target was to build the 11,120 new homes. However, the number build here was much higher - 16,955.
Only 2,380 (14%) of were social-rented homes that ordinary working class people that are on council housing waiting list would be able to afford,
Assessments of need in Islington (produced in 2011) showed that 57% of homes built in the borough needed for be social-rented (for 2011-16).
